New Growth Opportunities

In January 2011, three new opportunities to Grow in Faith will be available:

blog-simply-christian

Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense
1st & 3rd Tuesdays, beginning January 18th
in the Fireside Room from 7-8:30pm

Have you ever wondered why humans in all places and times have yearned for beauty, truth, spirituality, and justice? N.T. Wright contends that it is because we hear the echoes of God’s voice. Connecting to this God through worship, prayer, scripture and the church leads to life that is full and abundant.

Pastor Jim will lead this class as it examines how the ancient truths of Christianity may be lived out today. Meetings will start with a short video featuring N.T. Wright and then break into small groups to discuss the material.

Effective Parenting in a Defective World: How to Raise Kids Who Stand Out from the Crowd
Wednesdays, beginning January 19th
in the Sanctuary from 6:30-8pm

We live in a defective world in which our children are bombarded with the pressures and influences of drugs, sex, and violence. Parents often feel helpless, as every godly principle they teach their kids is contradicted by the corrupt principles of this defective world.

Chip Ingram shares the life lessons from his personal experience of raising four children. He describes his failures and the challenges of teenage rebellion. And he teaches the principles for successful parenting as revealed through God’s Word.

Each week, the group will watch a short DVD presentation, then break into small groups to discuss the material.

90 Minutes in Heaven: A True Story of Life and Death
Sunday mornings, beginning January 23rd
in Room 4 from 9-10:15 am

On the way home from a conference, Don Piper’s car was crushed by a semi that crossed into his lane. Medical personnel said he died instantly. While his body lay lifeless inside the ruins of his car, Piper experienced the glories of heaven.

Ninety minutes after the wreck, while a minister prayed for him, Piper miraculously returned to life on earth with only the memory of inexpressible heavenly bliss. His faith in God was severely tested as he faced an uncertain and grueling recovery.

90 Minutes in Heaven offers a glimpse of God’s heavenly reality. It encourages those recovering from serious injuries and those dealing with the loss of a loved one. Each week, the group will read a chapter of the book and discuss its meaning and relevance.
