Study Guide | 1st John 3.4-10

Greetings Good Shepherd Family,

Here is the study guide on 1st John 3.4-10. This weekend we will be looking at this passage in which we find more of the identity of followers of Jesus and the significance of being identified as children of God.

On another note, it is important to update you on our recent request for a poll of Good Shepherd members concerning the next step in our Season of Discernment regarding denominational affiliation.

We received 282 poll responses from our members. Of those, 243 (86%) indicated they think we should seek dismissal from the PC(USA) and become part of another Presbyterian denomination that better supports the ministry of Good Shepherd. This input will help the Session determine the next step which is to request entering into a process of further discernment with representatives from the Presbytery of Los Ranchos.

This next step will get underway in September, we hope. Remember that this process will lead us to a congregational decision whether to seek dismissal or not. I ask you to continue to pray for God’s guidance. It is a difficult thing to consider being dismissed from the PC(USA) even when many things would warrant doing so. I and the Session want to have the clarity and the confidence that come from allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us through the process to the very best solution.

Thanks very much,
Pastor Jim
