Pastor's Note | Saturday, January 17th

Since last Spring, Connie and I have been focusing our devotional times together on the Psalms. One recurring theme of the psalmists is remembering the things God has done for them and for the nation of Israel. In Psalm 77, verses 11 and 12, we see one example of the act of remembering: "I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago, I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds."

It’s a good reminder to remember.

It’s easy for us to be inundated with information and nearly overwhelmed with activities - so much so that we can easily lose sight of the things God has done in the past.

For example, God has provided opportunities to our community for worship, understanding Christian faith, spiritual nurture, and encouragement. Good Shepherd has been the spiritual home of thousands throughout our 53 year history.

Another example is enabling children to not only learn about God but to place their faith in Jesus Christ - as three of our juniors did at the recent Winter Camp at Forest Home - and to experience him in their lives.

Let’s remember God’s faithfulness to provide the financial resources that make it possible for Good Shepherd to exist and to minister as we do. Those resources are God’s provision provided through us and others who have come before us who have generously given and continue to give from what God has enabled us to earn.

It is important for us to remember God’s faithfulness in times of distress, in times of transition, as well as in times of looking ahead. Remembering God’s mighty deeds of the past enables us to move through challenging times with trust and assurance. Remembering God’s mighty deeds of the past enables us to move through transitions with confidence and delight. Remembering God’s mighty deeds of the past ensures us that God will always go before us into the future he has planned for us.
